Federal Entrepreneurs
The Federal Entrepreneur Program is designed for foreign nationals who have business management experience and would like to establish or acquire a Canadian business. To qualify you must have alone, or with your accompanying spouse, a net worth of at least $300,000 CAD that was obtained legally, and have at least two years of management experience within the last five years.
The following selection factors are also taken into account:
- • your education
- • your business experience
- • your age
- • your ability in English or French
- • your adaptability
In addition, you must comply for a period of at least one year within the period of three years after obtaining permanent resident status, with the following conditions:
- • you must control at least 33 1/3 per cent of the equity of a Canadian business
- • you must provide active and on-going management of a Canadian business
- • you must create at least one full-time job in a Canadian business for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, other than yourself or your family members

There is currently a temporary moratorium on new Federal Entrepreneur applications. As of July 1, 2011 no new applications will be accepted for processing by the Government of Canada. Please visit our Latest News section for information on when the moratorium will be lifted.
