The Canadian pilot foreign credential recognition loan program is set to be made permanent.

Quebec Immigration recently announced that it intends to cap the intake of new applications in the Immigrant Investor, Self-Employed Worker and Entrepreneur programs in an attempt to reduce processing times. The Skilled Worker program will also be divided into two groups, one of which will have a cap. The decision is still pending approval by the National Assembly of Quebec and would be retroactive from March 21, 2012. The proposed caps are as follows:

Participants can obtain permanent residence through passive investment of $1.2 million
The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program will reopen September 10 for a total of 1,900 applications.

The coverage available to protected persons, refugee claimants and others through the Interim Federal Health Program is being reformed. The biggest change will be the ending of coverage to all beneficiaries for dental care, vision care, mobility assistive devices and pharmacy care other than medications and immunizations needed to treat a disease that poses a risk to public health or a condition of public saftey concern.

Saskatchewan held new draws through its Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand ‎immigration sub-categories May 22, producing a total of 325 invitations to apply for a provincial ‎nomination for Canadian permanent residence. ‎

Immigrant-owned businesses were responsible for what a new Statistics Canada study says was a “disproportionate share of net job creation” between 2003 and 2013 compared to businesses with Canadian-born owners.

The Government of Quebec is proposing a series of updates to its Entrepreneur immigration category. The changes would be focused on startups supported by a business incubator/accelerator or university and the other on owner-funded and operated businesses.

A total of 23 entrepreneur candidates have been issued invitations to apply to the Nova Scotia Nominee Program in draws held March 27.
