Starting today, May 21st, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send out 35,700 invitations to sponsors who submitted “Interest to Sponsor” forms for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). This initiative aims to approve 20,500 applications for permanent residence (PR) within two weeks.
Eligibility for 2024 PGP Invitations
To receive an invitation, sponsors must:
- Have completed an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020 (and not received an ITA in previous years).
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
- Be 18 or older and residing in Canada.
- Exceed the minimum necessary income level for the program.
- Sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored family member for 20 years (10 years in Quebec).
Steps After Receiving an ITA
- Respond to the ITA with a complete application by the deadline in the invitation email.
- Pay the application fees (starting at $1,205 CAD).
- Ensure the application is complete and submitted on time.
Applications will be returned if they are incomplete, missing fees, late, or if the applicant did not initially receive an ITA.
Alternative Pathway: The Super Visa
If you don't receive an ITA this year, consider the Super Visa, allowing parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years at a time, extendable to seven years. This visa provides a temporary but accessible pathway to reunite families in Canada.
