  • Quebec says reforms to popular immigration program won’t affect students, workers already in province

International students in Canada may be eligible to work while completing their studies, provided their study permit includes work authorization.

Students can work unlimited hours on campus and up to 24 hours per week off campus during regular academic sessions. During scheduled breaks lasting at least seven consecutive days, they may work unlimited hours, up to 180 days per year.

Remote work for employers located outside Canada is also permitted without restrictions, as long as the employer has no physical or financial presence in Canada.

To be eligible to work while studying, students must:

  • Be enrolled full-time at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • Hold a valid study permit with work authorization
  • Have already started their program

Failing to follow these conditions can result in loss of student status, refusal of future permits, or removal from Canada.
