A lack of Canadian experience is a common barrier identified by newcomers as they pursue meaningful work in their new country. 

The list of Newfoundland and Labrador employers taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program has been made public, and the provincial government is encouraging foreign nationals to get in touch with them.

The province of Manitoba held its third Expression of Interest draw in less than three weeks on March 1, inviting 403 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.  
The invitations brought the number issued so far this year by the province MPNP program to 2,267 issued invitations.

Applicants invited had an Expression of Interest with the province under its Skilled Worker Overseas or as an International education stream.  

Manitoba issued a record 5,207 nominations for Canadian permanent residence in 2018, with 98 per cent going to skilled worker candidates.

Median hourly wages in all provinces and territories (except for Nunavut) will increase after May 31st.

In collaboration with the federal government, New Brunswick will launch a pilot project to address labour shortages.

New Brunswick has paused its Express Entry and Skilled Worker immigration streams for the rest of the year after reaching its quota of approximately 2,000 nominations. The pause, announced by the Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Department, will continue until January 2025.

Campaign comes amid soaring job vacancies in regions outside Montreal

A new website for immigrant job-seekers in Quebec is the focal point of a province-wide campaign launched this week to attract newcomers to regions outside the Montreal area.

Ottawa, January 2, 2013 — The brand-new Federal Skilled Trades Program begins accepting applications today, announced Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

Normally, processing involves an officer individually evaluating each work permit applicant to determine if they are approved. This includes a review of the applicant’s experience, education, language ability and any licensing requirements.

Starting August 11, 2024, IRCC introduced a temporary policy allowing certain Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for an open work permit (OWP).

Starting in 2025, Canada’s Francophone Community Immigration Class (FCIC) will allow French-speaking newcomers to settle permanently in designated communities outside Quebec. This five-year program aims to strengthen Francophone communities and address labor shortages.
